Scout honored this weekend

Fayetteville Boy Scout Troop 201 will recognize Sean David Wetli, 15, at an Eagle Scout Court of Honor Sunday, Aug. 24, at 2 p.m. at the Woodcreek clubhouse in Fayetteville. Sean was officially awarded the rank of Eagle Scout by the Boy Scouts of America May 20 after completing the extensive requirements set forth by that organization.

Sean wanted his Eagle service project to benefit special-needs students and their teachers. He supervised a team of scouts in building four stepstools and a scooter board holder for two Fayette County Board of Education Pre-Kindergarten classes. The program was housed at Peeples Elementary School in Fayetteville at the time of the project's completion in 2001.

Sean solicited several local retailers and received donations for all of the supplies necessary to complete the project. This equipment is still in use in the pre-K classrooms at Oak Grove Elementary School in Peachtree City.

Sean began his trail to Eagle in 1996 at the age of eight. He became an active member of Cub Scout Pack 171 sponsored by Rolling Hills Baptist Church in Fayetteville. His first experiences at Flint River Council's Camp Thunder in Molena sparked the beginning of seven years of campouts, hiking, rafting, caving and a development of appreciation and respect for the environment.

In 1999 Sean earned the Cub Scouts' highest award, the Arrow of Light, and he joined Boy Scout Troop 201 sponsored by Providence United Methodist Church in Fayetteville. There he served as patrol leader, assistant senior patrol leader and senior patrol leader. He earned 25 merit badges, completed a rigorous Junior Leadership Training program and was inducted into the Order of the Arrow, BSA's national brotherhood of honor campers. ean regularly attended summer camp at various BSA locations throughout the Southeast including a High Adventure sailing trip in the Florida Keys in 2002.

Sean is a sophomore and honor student at Starr's Mill High School. He plays the trumpet in the jazz band, Wind Ensemble, and marching band and runs on the Panther's track team. Sean is also active in the youth programs at Christ Our Shepherd Lutheran Church in Peachtree City including three music ensembles. He volunteered with other members of his church at the 2003 Evangelical Lutheran Church in America's National Youth Gathering in Atlanta.

Sean is the son of Jean-Pierre and Sara Wetli of Fayetteville and grandson of Andy and Susan Andersen of Wesley Chapel, Fla., and Peter and Irene Wetli of The Woodlands, Tex.
