Two College Park men were arrested last Tuesday after passing forged checks at the Peachtree City Wal-Mart, police said.

Both Michael Angelo Gibson, 39, and Monte West, 40, used forged checks and fake IDs to purchase goods at Wal-Mart, according to warrants for their arrest.

Gibson was charged with felony counts of forgery in the first degree, financial identity fraud, obstruction of a police officer, possession of cocaine and possession of a knife during the commission of a crime; he was also charged with a misdemeanor count of theft by taking. Officers found a knife within arm's reach of Gibson when his vehicle was pulled over, police said.

West was charged with three felony counts of financial identity fraud and one count each of theft by taking, forgery in the first degree and giving a false name and date of birth to a police officer.

Police Chief James Murray credited the Wal-Mart cashier for noticing that fake IDs were used and that the checks' numbers had been altered, he said.
