Tyrone to look at liquor issue again tomorrow night

Are you a Tyrone resident who has wanted to get more involved in politics or at least see how a town council meeting works? If so, you'll get your chance this week.

The Tyrone Town Council will meet at Town Hall tomorrow night at 7:30 p.m. and one of the major issues being discussed will be the possibility of a referendum for liquor by the drink being on the November ballot. The issue originally came before the council in July and no one spoke in favor of the possible referendum. In fact, all the citizens in attendance were against the idea and were from several area churches. Many Town Council members felt that if no one in the town supported the idea, they would table it for awhile.

However, a resident spoke before the council at the last meeting and said that she knew of lots of people who would like to at least be able to vote for or against the issue. She also stated that people in favor of the referendum were not aware that that topic would be discussed at the previous meeting.

That will not be an excuse after tomorrow's meeting and citizens in attendance can expect a doozy with both sides arguing the issue. One should expect that if there are numbers on both sides of the issue speaking, the voters will get the final say in November.
