HBA names 2003 scholarship winners

The Home Builders Association of Midwest Georgia recognized the recipients of the association's annual scholarships at its June meeting, held recently at the Wyndham Peachtree Conference Center in Peachtree City.

The 14 scholarship recipients this year include Jessica Caldwell, East Coweta High School; Lindsey Jordan, Jennifer Lewis and James Kuhne, Fayette County High School; Wade Harrell, Griffin High School; Nelson Turney, Newnan High School; Carly Alford and Melissa Bailey, Northgate High School; Reece Brown, Ryan Hutcheson and Jessica Lusher, Sandy Creek High School; and Liezl Coelzeg, Kelly Freeberg and Amy Shoemaker, Starr's Mill High School.

Currently, $1,000 scholarships are awarded to graduating seniors from the Fayette, Spalding and Coweta County School Systems who are entering a college in the state of Georgia. Employees of businesses related to the building industry and/or students interested in field of study related to the industry receive preference for scholarships.

The scholarship program, which is funded by the association's Scholarship House project, begun 21 years ago, and the association has now awarded 181 scholarships totaling $223,500.

Sponsors of the meeting were Bank of Georgia and BancMortgage Financial Corp.
