Thirty-seven junior boys from 13 to 15 years old, some from as far away as Chattanooga and Calhoun, took part in the event July 8. Players compete for points which accumulate over the course of the summer. The top junior golfers from the Advanced Division in each age group go on to compete at the Grand Championship, a 54-hole competition considered one of the most coveted titles of the year. The Atlanta Junior Golf Association, which ranks among the premier junior golf programs in the nation, was formed in 1974. The purpose of the association is to provide an environment where a junior golfer, male or female ages 7-18, can enjoy golf and progress at his or her own rate from beginner to a proficient level, while promoting and preserving the traditions and integrity of the fame. The Atlanta Junior Golf Association currently caters to approximately 1,500 junior golfers in and around the Atlanta metro area. The 1,500-acre Arbor Springs Plantation golf community is located northeast of Newnan off Georgia Hwy. 29.
