Steele, Brewer announce bid for re-election

Fayetteville Mayor Ken Steele and Councilman Glenn Brewer announced Thursday night that they will seek re-election this November.

Steele, 63, first served on the City Council when he filled the unexpired term of then-councilman Robert Sprayberry in 1994, and he was elected as a councilman the following year. He has served as mayor since 1999.

Brewer, 75, has served on council since 1991. He had previously served on the city's Planning and Zoning Commission and was elected to replace former councilman Rick Eastin.

"A lot of really neat things are going on in the city," Steele said, lauding the professionalism of city employees. "I think we have a very good team here."

Brewer said he, too, wished to run to achieve some continuity for the city.

"I just think I can still contribute to positive growth and the controlled growth we have," Brewer said. He added that he plans to plan ahead for potential zoning and annexation issues rather than responding "off the cuff."
