McIntosh's jazz band to open for Rawls By MICHAEL
BOYLAN
Though school won't start until Monday, the students in the McIntosh High School jazz band will get a lesson they will never forget tomorrow night namely, how to perform in front of a large crowd at a professional venue and how a legend works his magic. The jazz band will take the stage at the Frederick Brown Jr. Amphitheater on Saturday night as the opening act for Lou Rawls. Rawls is kicking off the amphitheater's first-ever jazz concert series and it is up to the musicians from McIntosh to warm up the crowd for him. Starr's Mill's jazz band will get their shot to open for a jazz act when rising star Carol Welsman comes to Peachtree City Sept. 6. Spyro Gyra will conclude the series with a concert Oct. 11. Rawls is a Grammy winning singer who has won awards in four categories: R&B, Pop, Jazz and Children's. His solo career started in 1962 with the hit "Stormy Monday" and continues today as his most recent works have been released by the jazz label Blue Note. Rawls is perhaps best known for the song "You'll Never Find (Another Love Like Mine), but has also released a number of songs that found success on both the Pop and R&B charts. Tickets are still available for all jazz shows. They are $35 and can be purchased by calling 770-631-0630 or by dropping by the amphitheater box office.
