DFCS asks for help with urgent need for school supplies The Fayette County Department of Family and Children Services is asking for the public's help in donating school supplies for needy children. And with school set to start Monday, the need is urgent. Approximately 90 children need the assistance, and DFCS officials are asking interested persons to contact them to help by donating specific school supplies or funds to purchase the supplies. Someone can also choose to "sponsor" a child by getting all the needed items for that particular child based on his or her grade level, Herbert said. Sharon Herbert of DFCS said the agency has a list of needed school supplies on hand and anyone wishing to help may call her directly at 770-460-2586. While cash or gift cards are accepted, it can take a while to be processed through the accounting process so it would be better if the supplies could be donated, Herbert said. The children in need of the supplies range from pre-kindergartners to high school seniors. John Munford
