Ruby Tuesday in PTC shut down after trash can fire

A Peachtree City restaurant was shut down Wednesday night after a fire that started in a wastebasket in the men's restroom.

Ruby Tuesday was closed after the fire because of concerns over "life safety issues" said Peachtree City Fire Chief Stony Lohr. No one was treated for any injuries at the scene, however, and the restaurant was allowed to reopen just after noon Thursday, Lohr said.

"A number of things needed to be corrected before they opened," Lohr said. He declined to go into detail, citing the pending investigation of the fire by the city's fire marshal.

The fire was reported to officials at 5:53 p.m., Lohr said. Fire crews responded and extinguished the flames, he added.

There was no significant structural damage to the restaurant, the chief added.

Representatives of the Peachtree City Building Department and the Fayette County Health Department also responded to the scene Wednesday evening, Lohr noted. All agreed it was best to shut down the restaurant for the rest of the night, Lohr said.

Lohr noted that Wednesday was "senior citizen's night" at the restaurant and it was fortunate the fire did not get out of control.
