Applications being taken for Ice Cream Festival

Main Street Newnan is currently accepting applications for this year's Annual Ice Cream Festival, scheduled for Aug. 30 at noon. Participants will be located around the historic courthouse square as they make the area's finest homemade ice cream.

Civic clubs, churches, schools, and other non-profit organizations will be churning their favorite recipes of homemade ice cream to raise funds for their projects and activities. Businesses are also encouraged to participate in order to raise money for a favorite charity.

According to Main Street Coordinator Lynn Yeager, there are serious bragging rights on the line. The top three flavors will be chosen by a panel of judges and cash prizes will be awarded. The competing teams will also offer their homemade ice cream for $1 a scoop to visitors and Main Street Newnan anticipates that there will be a great variety of flavors to sample.

The event will take place during the annual Festival Days which includes the downtown merchants' sidewalk sales and the Chamber of Commerce Road Race in conjunction with the famous Power's Crossroads Country Fair and Art Festival.

Applications to join the Annual Ice Cream Festival are $15. The deadline to enter is Aug. 16. For more information and to receive an application please contact the Main Street Office at 770-253-8283.
