Zan Janet Waldrop Baker
Zan Janet Waldrop Baker, Jonesboro, died July 20, 2003. She was preceded in death by her parents, Manse and Sarah Nolan Waldrop Jr., and a sister, Sarah Jacklyn Waldrop Standard. She was a longtime member of First Baptist Church of Jonesboro and was retired from Delta Air Lines. Services were at the First Baptist Church of Jonesboro with interment in the Morrow Cemetery. Survivors include nieces, Jill Standard and Eric Olsen, Dana Waldrop and Wes Williams; a nephew Manse and Leigh Waldrop; great nieces, Sara Olsen and Laken, Lauren and baby Waldrop; a brother, Dan and Sharon Waldrop; and brothers-in-law, James Douglas Standard Jr., and Raymond L. Baker. Southside Chapel Funeral Home, Morrow, was in charge.
Gloria Harper Crisp
Gloria Harper Crisp, 53, Fayetteville, died July 26, 2003. She was born April 6, 1950 in Murphy, Cherokee County, N. C. She worked as a pharmacist for Wal-Mart Corporation in Riverdale. She was a member of the Fayetteville First Baptist Church and was always active in providing leadership and support to youth sports and activities. She was an avid animal lover and a member of the Atlanta Human Society. Services were at the Fayetteville First Baptist Church with the Rev. Chris Perkins and the Rev. Chuck Chambers officiating. Interment was at Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens, College Park, Ga. Survivors include her husband, Ray W. Crisp, Fayetteville; sons, Brian David Folsom, Atlanta, Jeffrey Douglas Crisp, Fayetteville, and Eric Wayne and Kari Crisp, Atlanta; parents, John Arvil and Julia Volyes Harper, Murphy, N. C.; sisters, Doris Harper and Billy Carringer, Brasstown, N. C. and Marsha Harper Moore, Tucker, Ga.; father and mother-in-law, Wayne and Christene Crisp, College Park, Ga.; a brother-in-law, Doug and Elizabeth Crisp, Social Circle, Ga.; two nephews; five nieces; two great-nephews; six great-nieces; one uncle; and one aunt. Harold Overton Thomas
Harold Overton Thomas, 85, Fayetteville, died July 28, 2003. He was born Oct. 29, 1918 in Omaha, Neb. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Katherine Gould. Services were at the Fayetteville First United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Dr. Sam Matthews and the Rev. Thomas Pilgram officiating. Interment was at Woodlawn Cemetery, Orlando, Fla. Survivors include his wife, Martha Edwards Thomas, Fayetteville; a daughter, Carol and Edward Wetmiller, Tyrone; grandchildren, Matthew Wetmiller and Brian Wetmiller, both of Tyrone; brothers, Richard L. Thomas, Santa Fe, N. M., and Fred Thomas, Lufkin, Texas; and a sister, Virginia Mullikin, Decatur. Carl J. Mowell & Son Funeral Home, Fayetteville, was in charge.
Deborah Foster
Deborah Foster, 51, Senoia, Fayette County, died July 28, 2003. She was born April 15, 1952 in Atlanta, Ga. Services were at the Carl J. Mowell chapel, with the Rev. Randall Harris officiating. Interment was at the Carlton Cemetery, Carlton, Ga. Survivors include her parents, Clifton and Shirley Foster, Senoia; a brother, Gary Foster, Athens; and a half-brother, Ronald Suggs, Jersey, Va. William Henry Pettyjohn
William Henry Pettyjohn, 82, Riverdale, Fayette County, died July 31, 2003. He was born Jan. 7, 1921 in Trion, Chattooga County, Ga. He was preceded in death by his wife, Louvina Parris Pettyjohn. He was a veteran of World War II in the United States Navy. Services were at the Carl J. Mowell chapel with interment at Sherwood Memorial Gardens, Jonesboro. Survivors include a son, W. Randy and Cathy Pettyjohn, Monroe; a daughter, Carolyn and Robert Newcomb, Fayette County; grandchildren, Charlie, Brandy, Ben, Arica, Randy Jr., and Cortney; two great-grandchildren; one brother; and three sisters. Alvin York Moore
Alvin York “Pop” Moore, 83, Gay, Ga., died July 31, 2003. He was born Oct. 24, 1919 in Fayette County, the son of Emment and Addie Mallory Moore. He was preceded in death by his son, Larry Moore, and daughter-in-law, Christel Moore. He was retired from International Harvester in East Point with 30 years of service. He then opened service station and owned a pulp wood company. He enjoyed fishing, baseball and teaching tales to his grandchildren. Services were at the Carl J. Mowell chapel with the Rev. Matthew Hinesley officiating. Interment was at Camp Memorial Park, Fayetteville. Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Betty Moore; a son, Alvin "Buddy" Moore, Stone Mountain; daughters, Sherry Hurley, Gay, and Kimberlie and Phillip McDonald, Sharpsburg; grandchildren, Derrick and Larissa Moore, Seattle, Wash., Travis and Cindy Moore, MA, Michele Hurley and Andy Gordy, Lincoln, Ala., Misty Moore and Jake Smith, Moreland, Rachael Hurley, Gay, Chase and Ryan Taylor, Gay, and Michaela and Hunter McDonald, Sharpsburg; great-grandchildren, Nichole Gordy, Danielle Gordy, Andrew Gordy, Jordan Moore, and Samantha Jane Moore; a brother, Walter and Shirley Moore; sisters, Charlotte Parker, Ruth Brown, and Evelyn Williams; and sisters-in-law, Ruth Moore, and Jane Dyer.
