Fville council to consider office rezoning near jail

The Fayetteville City Council will consider a request to rezone 1.3 acres south of the Fayette County Justice Center to office-institutional at its regular meeting Thursday night.

The property, on the west side of Jimmie Mayfield Boulevard, is currently zoned residential but a developer wants to build an office building there to complement the new use of the jail and courthouse complex.

In other business, council is slated to consider an amendment to the city's alcohol beverage ordinance. The change would require any fines assessed by the city council to be paid within three days of their assessment unless the matter is appealed to the council.

Council is also expected to vote on two annexation requests for two residential parcels on New Hope Road. The parcels are less than two acres total and both property owners thought all this time their homes were in the city limits, but no records of the parcels being annexed has been found, city officials said.
