PTC police worry about drug sales at apartments

Peachtree City police believe they have arrested a significant supplier of illegal drugs who was operating at Balmoral Village Apartments.

Illegal drug sales at the apartment, most of which were of crystal methamphetamine, ranged from $1,000 to perhaps $5,000 a day, said Peachtree City Police Chief James Murray.

"You're talking about a sizeable amount going in and out of there," Murray said.

Officers seized a book that lists who purchased drugs at the location and for what amounts, Murray noted. That information will be used for the follow-up investigation, and some of the names were known to officers from previous drug arrests, Murray added.

"We will be contacting them or their parents," Murray said, adding that the book "is just full of knowledge for us."

Tonya Dagley, 29, of Peachtree City was arrested early Saturday morning for possession of methamphetamine with the intent to distribute, possession of marijuana with intent to distribute, possession of LSD, possession of xanax, possession of klonopin and possession of methamphetamine, police said.

"We feel this person is working for somebody else and we'll follow up on that, too," Murray said.

Dagley had been living at Balmoral Village for just three weeks when she was arrested, Murray said. Prior to that, she lived at Harmony Village Apartments, where the drug sales likely started, Murray said.

"You just don't build up that kind of clientele after three weeks in one apartment," Murray said.

A confidential informant provided police with key information about Dagley's operation, Murray said. Officers also conducted undercover surveillance on the area before the arrest, Murray said.

Murray added that he is concerned since this is the second significant drug arrest at Balmoral Village in the past year. Last October, two people were arrested for trafficking in methamphetamine, one of whom was a maintenance employee for the apartment complex who used vacant apartments in the scheme, Murray said.

Police have contacted the management company which operates Balmoral Village to set up a meeting about the matter, Murray said.
