University bound students back to school checklist for 2003 Fall brings more than a seasonal change for the weather, it also brings first year university-bound students an unforgettable and life changing experience. While students prepare for their first year of college filled with excitement, anticipation and a little anxiety, General Growth Properties and Shannon Mall recommend planning ahead. "It is not easy to think of everything, especially when you have never been to college before. Often students are not certain of what they actually need, but Shannon Mall has prepared a list of items to help," said Chris Olateru, Group Marketing Manager. Electronic items will be important. A laptop computer is the new way to take notes in class, and don't forget a printer for those late night term papers. Check with the university about computer availability in the labs to see if bringing a computer and printer to school would be a good idea. Dorm rooms often do not supply telephones, so think of purchasing a cell phone with a good long distance plan or a cordless phone with attached headsets because they offer the greatest flexibility. Missing friends and family the first few months is extremely common and phone cards make it easy and convenient to keep in touch. A stereo is important for all college students and a TV may be a necessity for some. Palm pilots may be another important item to consider purchasing, as it will help students keep track of their deadlines. An extra light for the desk that allows students to keep typing away during late nights will make sleeping roommates extremely grateful. "One of the most important items to bring with you to college is an alarm clock. College will bring many, many late nights and getting up will not be so easy. But check out Shannon Mall's Radio Shack for the latest talking alarm clocks," said Olateru. Other college bound items that may be needed include shower buckets, a robe and shower shoes. Remember college typically only offers common showers and having some flip-flops is not only sanitary, it will help keep you feeling clean. Robes are important too, for the long walks down the hallway (that may even be co-ed). Rich's Macy's has a great selection of robes right now. Be sure to remember bedding, towels and a little refrigerator to help make your doom room more complete. If the decision has been made to buy matching comforters check out Rich's Macy's and Sears "A variety of items will be needed to assist in making the college experience complete and Shannon Mall is here to help with our numerous stores that reflect a variety of options," said Olateru. "But enjoy the time spent preparing for the college and maybe even shop with parents too, because it will not be long before you will be headed off to school."
