Schools' P.R. department wins national competitionThe Fayette County School System's public relations department has garnered two awards for its publicity efforts from the National School Public Relations Association. Each year NSPRA sponsors a nationwide evaluation program where it honors school public relations professionals who exhibit exceptional skills in communicating with parents, staff, community members and other publics through writing, photography, publication design and electronic media. During the 2003 evaluation program, Fayette County Schools received an Award of Merit for the 2001-2002 annual report and an Award of Honorable Mention for the 2002 financial report. "This marks our second year of competing in this evaluation program and brings our total national recognitions to three," said public information specialist Melinda Berry-Dreisbach. "We are extremely proud of this achievement considering the public relations department has only be in existence for two years." There were 1,174 entries submitted in this year's competition with 229 receiving Awards of Merit and 237 Awards of Honorable Mention.
