Commissioner recovering after surgeryBy JOHN
THOMPSON
Fayette County Commissioner A.G. VanLandingham is resting comfortably at home this week after surgery at Fayette Community Hospital last week. "I came home Saturday, and I'm feeling pretty good," he said. VanLandingham underwent surgery last week for an ulcerated mass on his colon. When the doctors were doing the surgery, they found "something else" that will require the commissioner to undergo chemotherapy next month. "They didn't find anything really definite, but they're going to proceed like something is there," he said. By the middle of next month, he'll have a port inserted to start the chemotherapy treatment, but doesn't anticipate missing any further County Commission meetings. "The prognosis is a lot better than it was four or five days ago. We've gotten some good reports," he said. VanLandingham is the second commissioner to deal with a serious health problem this year. Earlier in the year, Commissioner Peter Pfeifer missed several months due to bleeding on the brain.
