Newnan Plaza on the way out By JOHN
THOMPSON
By early fall, residents will be saying goodbye to one of Coweta County's oldest shopping centers. The Newanan Plaza on Greenville Street will soon be demolished to make way for the county's new judicial complex. County admininistrator Theron Gay said the only business left in the center is Quality Foods, whose lease expires in November. "We'll start doing some demolition at the site shortly," Gay said. Right now, county workers are going through the vacated building and salvaging anything that can be used, such as heating and air conditioning duct work, Gay said. By 2005, Coweta County residents should be able to handle all their judicial needs in the new court complex, The $30 million project is being funded by Coweta's voters extension of the Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax last year. Gay said actual construction at the site would start early next spring, and construction should be completed towards the end of 2005. For months, the County Commission has been looking over engineering proposals for the center and a new committee was formed that will help oversee construction and design of the facility. Neighboring Fayette County just opened its new judicial center earlier in the year and is receiving accolades for the design and convenience factor of the center.
