One of Coweta County's political legends is resting comfortably after heart surgery Tuesday.

Coweta County Commissioner Vernon "Mutt" Hunter underwent quadruple bypass surgery at Piedmont Hospital in Atlanta Tuesday after complaining of chest pains Sunday morning, said Coweta County Public Information Officer Tom Corker.

"They conducted some tests on him Monday at Newnan Hospital and sent him to Piedmont," Corker said.

Hunter's surgery was completed late Tuesday afternoon, and was scheduled to be transferred to a regular room Wednesday afternoon.

Hunter has served as a county commissioner for more than a decade. Prior to his political career, Hunter served as the county's administrator for more than two decades.
