CCSU sets Oct. 25 homecoming

Clayton College & State University is formulating plans for the big 2003 Homecoming celebration. This year's theme, "Feel It, Hear It, Laker Spirit", will permeate the campus with weeklong activities that will culminate Saturday, Oct. 25.

The Homecoming committee, which consists of faculty, students and staff, are planning for a special event that will incorporate some fun, new activities with the traditional one's that everyone has enjoyed in the past.

Angela Avery, assistant director of Student Life, has been hard at work bringing some of these new ideas to the table and motivating students, staff and faculty alike to bring the "Laker Spirit" alive this Homecoming.

In addition to the regular Homecoming staples - the Homecoming Parade, the Alumni Pancake Breakfast, the Fall Frolics Talent Show and the Student Olympics Competition, this year's weeklong celebration will include the Flag Football Championships, a basketball tournament (faculty/staff/alumni vs. students) a 1-mile Fun Run and a Casino Night.

This year the Homecoming Committee will incorporate a "carnival" style theme at the end of the parade, where families and students can enjoy food, games, prizes and entertainment. Prior to the parade, the newly formed Clayton State Track Club will sponsor a 1-mile race for runners of all ages, culminating at the Pancake Breakfast in the Harry S. Downs Center for Continuing Education building.

Clayton State's students, alumni and friends will feel and hear the Laker spirit come alive at the annual Homecoming Soccer Doubleheader, which will feature Clayton State's men's and women's soccer teams playing UNC Pembroke at 1 p.m. and 3:30 p.m.
