Prize winners named from 'Family Fun Fest'

Amanda, Jerri and Allie Statham were the proud winners of the Golf Cart Decoration contest at the Family Fun Fest in Peachtree City in June. The event was coordinated by Girl Scouts Joanne Smith and Karen Lee as part of their Girl Scout Gold Award Project.

"Joanne and Karen approached me earlier in the year about their project," said Peachtree City Mayor Steve Brown. "They were looking for something to bring the community together in a fun and enjoyable way to learn about their community and promote civic pride."

The Family Fun Fest was the result of this effort. Held at Kedron Elementary School, the event featured musical acts, dancing companies, a moonwalk, games, nail and face painting booths, snakes, and informational displays on local organizations and services.

The Peachtree City Library, Police Department and Fire Department also participated. Prizes included an Emerson Home Audio System, donated by Wal-Mart, T-shirts donated by J93.3 FM radio, and an ice cream coupon from Publix.

"Im so proud of these young women for making the Family Fun Fest a reality," said Brown. "All of the participants had a wonderful time."

Karen and Joanne coordinated the event as a project for the Girl Scouts, but hope the community will continue the Family Fun Fest in years to come.
