Fayette County has several Gordon College scholarship winners

The Gordon College Foundation, which helps defray the cost of higher learning for more than 250 students annually, recently awarded scholarships to seven area students.

The Fayette County Gordon College Foundation scholars are Kristen Chambers, Caroline Creel, Amanda Ferner, Tammie Haun, John F. Simon IV, Lauren Sollenberger, and Sara Torbett.

Kristen Chambers has been awarded the Evelyn Bush Nursing Scholarship and plans to major in Nursing. Her high school activities and honors include: Honor Roll and Beta Club. She is the daughter of Denny and Deborah Vincent.

Caroline Creel has been awarded the David Bishop Scholarship and plans to major in Education. Her high school activities and honors include: marching band, concert band, Women's Chorus Student Conductor, District Honor Chorus, and Girl Scouts - Silver Award. She is the daughter of Jeff and Debbi Creel.

Amanda Ferner has been awarded the Selwyn Walker Foundation Nursing Scholarship and plans to major in Nursing. Her high school activities and honors include: Honor Roll, Student of the Semester, Student of the Quarter, FFA, Beta Club, Science Club, and Future Business Leaders of America. She is the daughter of Jack and Sharon Wells.

Tammie Haun has been awarded the 1000 Club Scholarship and plans to major in Education.Her high school activities and honors include: marching band, track, Key Club, Beta Club, Girl Scout Silver Award, Flute of the Year Award, Most Outstanding Veteran, and Principal's Recognition List. She is the daughter of John and Karen Haun.

John F. Simon IV has been awarded the Robert and Caroline Lombardo Scholarship and plans to major in General Studies. His high school activities and honors include: Spanish Club, Spanish Honor Society, Superior Rating in Spanish I Speaking Contest, and Superior Rating in Spanish II Speaking Contest. He is the son of John and Susan Simon.

Lauren Sollenberger has been awarded the C. C. Cadenhead Scholarship and plans to major in Business Administration. Her high school activities and honors include: Beta Club, National Honors Society, Georgia Merit Certificate, Top 10 High School Students, and Student of the Month Nominee. She is the daughter of Pamela Moore.

Sara Torbett has been awarded the Charles E. Lambdin, Jr. Scholarship and plans to major in Nursing. Her high school activities and honors include: Beta Club, Honors Chorus, A-B Honor Roll, French Club, Key Club, and Laws of Life Essay Winner. She is the daughter of Barry and Andrea Lyle.

These artistically and academically talented students will enroll in Gordon, one of the fastest growing two-year residential units of the University System of Georgia, this fall. The College offers small classes, excellent academic programs, affordable prices, a variety of campus activities, intercollegiate sports, spacious dormitories, and a beautiful campus.
