Fayette County drug agents have made crime pay recently, turning two significant drug busts into thousands of dollars in cash that will be used to buy crime-fighting equipment.

The proceeds were from funds seized during the busts, which in one case led to thousands of dollars in profits collected by a pharmacist who dispensed medication to persons without prescriptions, police said. In the other bust, officers intercepted a vehicle with U.S. currency, according to reports.

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration was involved in both busts along with the Fayette County Sheriff's Department, which operates the county's drug task force, and the Tyrone Police Department and the Pike County Sheriff's Department, both of which provide manpower to the task force.

The funds were split between the two sheriff's departments and the Tyrone Police Department. The Fayette County Sheriff's Department netted $160,464 while the Tyrone Police Department received $32,870.

The Pike County Sheriff's Department received $15,230.
