Readers of The Citizen are likely familiar with Dr. Gregory Moffatt, a columnist for the monthly Healthwise section. In his column, Moffatt typically addresses parental concerns and topics dealing with child psychology.

Moffatt's career goes beyond his work with children and the monthly column, though. He is also a professor and well-respected speaker and an author. His newest book, the third of his career, "Wounded Innocents and Fallen Angels," was recently released.

The book discusses crimes against children such as Munchausen Syndrome by Proxy as well as sexual and physical abuse, neglect and infanticide, and then looks at crimes committed by children against other people, property and themselves. Though it may sound like a textbook for a Psychology course, Moffatt uses a style that is accessible to many readers.

"This book would be of interest to anyone who has children with these issues or professionals who deal with children where these issues might be pertinent," said Moffatt, who has been very pleased with the response the book has received thus far. "It has been really overwhelming. The reviews have been exceptional and sales are really good, especially since the book was released less than a month ago."

"Wounded Innocents and Fallen Angels" is filled with engrossing stories from clinical case studies and also discusses treatment options. Moffatt has a solid background in the area of violent crime. He has written, lectured and consulted on violent behavior for over 10 years and has worked with law enforcement on some unsolved homicides. He has been a regular lecturer at the FBI National Academy in Quantico, Va., and has also specialized in the assessment and prevention of homicidal and violent behavior.

His first two books, "A Violent Heart - Understanding Aggressive Individuals" and "Blind-Sided - Homicide Where It Is Least Expected," have met critical success among law enforcement and those in the medical and educational professions. His upcoming book, "More Than a Babysitter - A Guide to Parenting," is due out later this year. Moffatt is also working on a book dealing with resiliency and recovery from trauma.

When not writing books, Moffatt spends time as a professor at Atlanta Christian College and a part-time instructor at Georgia State University, which is where he received his M.A. in counseling and his Ph.D. in educational psychology. Moffatt has also been in private clinical practice for 17 years and for the past 15 has specialized with children ages 3-11.

Moffatt's book can be found at several locations online including Amazon.com, Greenwood Publishing or www.mpsconsultation.com. Signed copies are also available at Omega Book Stores in Peachtree City.
