Fayetteville home catches fire after lightning strikeBy JOHN MUNFORD
No one was injured when a lightning strike started a fire at a Fayetteville home Thursday evening. The family living at 145 Crestview Drive escaped the residence after the strike, which tipped off a fire in the attic, said Sgt. Bill Rieck of the Fayetteville Fire Department. Smoke and flames were poking through the roof when fire crews reached the scene, Rieck said. Two crews entered the home and fought the fire from the inside, helping contain most of the damage to the attic, Rieck said. "They did an excellent job of containing the fire," Rieck said, noting that most of the contents of the house were saved. The family will have to live elsewhere temporarily while repairs are made to the home, Rieck added. The first fire crew was on scene five minutes after the 911 call was received at 7:26 p.m., Rieck said. The two Fayetteville fire engines were assisted by one engine from the Fayette County Department of Fire and Emergency Services.
