Deal for access road nearing for new McDonald's

The roadblock to plans for a new McDonald's restaurant off Ga. Highway 85 south in Fayetteville may be cleared.

The city's Planning and Zoning Commission had previously indicated it wouldn't approve plans for the 1.29-acre tract near the GTO's Drive-In restaurant. The commission wanted an agreement between McDonald's and Concordia Properties that the restaurant could share an access road with the new retail center planned as part of the Southside development process.

An agreement has apparently been hammered out to allow for the access road to be shared, according to city staff. Officials are recommending approval of the plans for the McDonald's with a condition that the road agreement be concluded before a certificate of occupancy is issued.

The issue will likely be considered by the commission at its regular meeting Tuesday, July 22.

McDonald's officials have said the building would be almost exactly like the new one that was built on north Glynn Street earlier this year after the older structure was razed.
