Twin Lakes plans sent back to the drawing board

The saga to develop the Twin Lakes subdivision continues.

Late last month, The City Council tabled approval of the preliminary plat for the Twin Lakes subdivision. At the center of the controversy over the 381-home development on Rockaway Road is water storage.

The city's staff, including city engineer Ben Turnipseed, maintains the development needs an above-ground water tank storage system.

During Monday night's City Council meeting, the council sent a list of issues concerning the subdivision back to the Planning Commission for them to reconsider.

At the top of the list is a 250,000 minimum water tank provided by the developer to provide water and fire protection for the development.

Other issues include:

Coordination of Rockaway Road and Ga. Highway 74 traffic light installation.

Providing a detailed list of amenities including the number of tennis courts, size of swimming pool, ball fields, clubhouse.

Deeding 150 feet of greenspace around Hutchinson Lake and upper lake restoration.

Developer Chris Cooper asked the City Council if they could be more specific in their requests, so the Planning Commission would be sure to know what the council was seeking.

"Oh, they'll know," said Mayor Dianne Cleveland.
