Wanted: Space for a school By JOHN THOMPSON
If you've got 10,000 sq. ft. of space available in East Coweta available, the organizers of the Odyssey School would love to talk to you. School officials are scrambling this week after their deal to use space at Sharpsburg Baptist Church could not be finalized. The school would be Coweta's second charter school and officials were hopeful of opening the school in August after meeting the minimum enrollment figure of 200 at the end of June. "The parents are so very excited and very prayerful for the opening of this school this year. Most have expressed that the school is exactly what they have desired for their children's education and that it is an answer to their prayers," said Odyssey School president Cam Tidwell. Charter schools rely more on parents' approval of the curriculum and input on how the school should be run, but are still funded through the local school board. Tidwell said the school has one other option for property, but is not sure if the timeline would allow for an August opening. "Should we not find our facility needs, parents need to make their alternate plans now. The board will continue to diligently pursue the offer on the table and seek alternate options until the cut off date," Tidwell added. Odyssey school officials have been trying to open the school for years, and thought everything was ready to go this summer. Residents who want to find out more about the school or want to help in efforts to obtain a building should contact Tidwell at 770-304-9585.
