Heritage of Peachtree salutes veteransHeritage of Peachtree Retirement and Assisted Living salutes its veterans: Mary Alice (Hudson) Nichols served as a lieutenant in the Navy Nurse Corp. from 1942-1946. Stationed on Ford Island. Her most memorable event was witnessing Pearl Harbor after the bombing, stating it was "exciting but sad." Nichols came from a little town in North Carolina and joining the service gave her the opportunity to travel and see many things in the world. Paul E. Johnston, 119th Infantry, 30th Infantry Division, served from 1941-1945 as supply sergeant in Germany, France, Holland and Belgium. Lenny Miller, served in the Army from 1939-1945. He was injured during his service. His most memorbale experience was shaking hands with Bob Hope in Italy and Humphrey Bogart in Africa. Charles Redd, Seaman First Class, US Navy. He enlisted at the age of 16 and served from 1939-1945. Redd flew PBY Seaplanes and patrolled the coast off Pensacola. His most memorable experience was when he spotted a Japanese submarine and alerted the main base, which subsequently caused that submarine to be sunk.
