Atlanta Braves team up with American Red Cross to promote summer blood donationsThe Atlanta Braves and the American Red Cross are teaming up to bring in badly needed blood donors during the July 4th weekend as well as over the rest of the summer. The two organizations are sponsoring the "All-American Blood Drive," Thursday through Saturday, July 3-5. All blood donors are urged to come out for this special holiday drive to provide blood for patients in need of life-saving transfusions. A severe summer blood shortage has already begun, with an emergency appeal for blood donations. Blood donors of all types are needed, especially type O and B donors. Mall Locations Noon to 5 p.m.: Gwinnett Place Mall (Lower level, next to Johnny Rockets), Northlake Mall (Lower level, near JC Penney), Discover Mills (Across from BLACKLION), Town Center Mall (Lower Level, Center Court). Donor Center Locations: Alpharetta Donor Center, 3000 Old Alabama Road, Suite 110 (At Old Alabama and Haynes Bridge roads), Duluth Donor Center, 3090 Premiere Pkwy., Suite 500 (At Sugarloaf & Meadows Church Road), Cobb Donor Center, 2145 Roswell Road (In East Lake Shopping Center), Monroe Drive Donor Center, 1925 Monroe Drive NE (I-85 & Monroe Drive), South Metro Donor Center, 675 Southcrest Parkway, Suite 120 (across from Garden Ridge in Stockbridge). All participants will receive a T-shirt and will be eligible to win Atlanta Braves tickets and other memorabilia, including signed baseballs. One lucky person will win an Atlanta Braves field visit. Most healthy people age 17 or older, who weigh at least 110 pounds, can donate blood. The American Red Cross Blood Services Southern Region needs approximately 1,200 donors each weekday to meet the needs of hospital patients. If every eligible donor donated at least twice each year, there would be no blood shortages. For more information, please call 1-800-GIVE-LIFE (448-3543) or visit www.givelife.org.
