The Fayetteville City Council will consider a recommendation to a one-time 4 percent discretionary increase for current participants in its retirement plan.

The increase, if approved, would cost an estimated $5,568 a year according to figures provided by the Georgia Municipal Association, which manages the program. That figure breaks down to $464 a month.

The increase would become effective Aug. 1 for the coming fiscal year. It was recommended by the city's retirement committee.

The matter has already been posted for its first reading and there were no comments against the proposal when it was brought up to council. It will likely be considered at the council's next meeting on Thursday, June 17.
