A 4-year-old girl suffered minor injuries Wednesday afternoon when she was run over by a golf cart that she jumped off of while it was parked in a driveway, police said.

Victoria Stephens was taken by Rescue Air 1 medical helicopter to Grady Memorial Hospital where she was later released, said Police Chief James Murray.

The victim jumped off the rear seat of the golf cart which was stopped in the driveway of a home on Interlochen Drive so the driver could pick up a newspaper, Murray said. The driver, Melanie Stephens, 34, locked the cart's parking brake, but it somehow rolled backwards and struck the girl, Murray said.

The driveway was inclined, Murray noted.
