Bray receives double honorBy CAROLYN
CARY
Native Fayette Countian Huie Bray has just added two more honors for the year, receiving a pin for 50 years as a Kiwanian and the George F. Hixson Fellowship award. A contribution of $1,000 was given in Bray's name to the International Kiwanis project to virtually eliminate iodine deficiency disorders in the world's children. The dinner was hosted by the Metro Fayette Kiwanis, where Bray is a member. Club president Forrest Cate named some of the other events taking place 50 years ago: DNA was discovered, along with Elvis Presley, The New York Yankees won its 5th straight Word Series, cancer was linked to smoking for the first time, and Chuck Yeager set a world speed record of 1,650 miles per hour in the X-1A rocket. Bray also received the Dreambuilders Award in January, given by the Fayette County Chamber of Commerce for his lifetime contributions to the county. After returning from serving in the Navy in World War II, he spent the next years in construction and real estate development. He and wife Bea have two children, Danny "Bo" and Patsy Goolsby and six grandchildren.
