Office park rezoning proposed south of new courthouse

An oddly shaped piece of property just south of the new Fayette County Justice Center in Fayetteville may be rezoned to make room for a small office complex.

The property, which is just off Jimmie Mayfield Boulevard to the west, is 1.3 acres and is currently undeveloped.

Bob Rolader, the developer seeking the rezoning, said the city had asked him to wait on his original proposal until after the southside master plan was completed, and he complied. His current proposal would not tie into that development, however.

The property has a small strip that extends west to Williamsburg Way. But comments from the Fayetteville Planning and Zoning Commission indicated favor for dropping that undevelopable strip of land from the plan, to which Rolader agreed.

The property is currently zoned residential, but Rolader is seeking a rezoning to office-institutional.

Attorney Loyd Black of Brooks said he didn't think such a rezoning would be fair given that he represented adjacent property owners whose land is zoned residential also.

The matter may be considered by the commission at its regular meeting Tuesday.
