Brown to serve on Red Cross board

Peachtree City Mayor Steve Brown was voted onto the Board of Directors of the Metropolitan Atlanta Chapter of the American Red Cross.

The vote was held June 10 at the organization's annual meeting at the corporate headquarters of The Home Depot in Cobb County.Brown acknowledged, "I am very eager to serve in this capacity and I look forward to spotlighting the efforts of the Red Cross in our community."

In addition, Brown was selected as the Chairman of the South Metro Advisory Council of the American Red Cross. He will be responsible for representing the southern crescent counties within the Atlanta chapter.

"The Red Cross provides immediate assistance to our families that lose their homes due to fire, tornadoes, HAZMAT evacuations and the like.No other organization partners so closely with our local governments in providing aid to our citizens in times of crisis," stated Brown.

When a local family loses its home due to fire, our local fire departments contact the South Metro Red Cross office. The Red Cross immediately finds shelter for the family, supplies groceries, supplies work/school clothes and obtains prescription medicines that were lost in the fire.

In addition to blood collection, CPR and first aid classes, the local Red Cross also assists refugee families locating in our area with locating a job and educational opportunities.

"The Red Cross is a good steward with 88 cents out of every dollar going directly to outreach services," said Brown.
