Two Fayette teens graduate from Youth ChallengeTwo Fayette County Teens were among more than 200 teens graduating from the National Guard-sponsored Youth Challenge Academy this weekend at the Macon City Auditorium. Among the many family and friends attending the commencement ceremonies was 11th District Congressman Phil Gingrey. Nathan Breyne and Aaron Lewis, both of Fayetteville, were members of the 24th class of formerly at-risk students to graduate from the Fort Stewart-based Academy. Youth Challenge is a voluntary 22-week in-residence youth program leading to a GED that emphasizes academics, life skills and physical conditioning. Candidates for attendance in the program are high school dropouts, between the ages of 16 and 18, and are recommended by school counselors.To date, more than 4,200 formerly at-risk teens have graduated from Georgia's Youth Challenge Academy. The Georgia National Guard operates two Youth Challenge Academy campuses, one at Fort Stewart near Savannah and the other at Fort Gordon near Augusta.For more information about Youth Challenge, telephone (912)767-4015.
