Fayette County Library welcomes new librarianBy MICHAEL
BOYLAN
There's a new face greeting visitors at the Fayette County Public Library. Sherri Bowers, a Georgia native and former employee of the Atlanta Fulton County public Library, is the new public services librarian. Bowers, a Morrow resident for the past 10 years, has a long history with libraries, beginning with visits as an avid reader from a very young age. Bowers grew up in Danburg, Ga., and was taken to the Mary Willis Public Library, which, according to the Georgia Historical Society, was one of the first free (without a subscription fee) public libraries in the state. Her parents, both voracious readers themselves, encouraged their daughter's love of reading. It is not surprising then that she has worked at a umber of different libraries over the years, including a medical library, a junior college library, the Atlanta newspapers library and the New York Public Library. While at the New York Public Library, Bowers served as the sound recordings librarian. Compact discs were increasing in use during her tenure at the library and she created the CD management program. In addition to her work as a librarian, Bowers recently went back to college at Clayton College and State University to finish an undergraduate degree in piano performance. Though her work at the library and her course work at college often kept her too busy to enjoy leisure reading, Bowers does enjoy curling up with a good murder mystery when there is time. She is married to Steve Dobbs, former director of the Atlanta Zoo. Be sure you say hello to Mrs. Bowers next time you stop by the library.
