Checking out the Market By
F.C. FOODIE
In the past few years, Fayette County has seen its number of grocery stores increase by a huge rate. Not too many years ago, shoppers had a choice of Big Star in Peachtree City and A & T in Fayetteville. But now, Kroger and Publix stores abound, and you can even pick up groceries at Wal-Mart. In addition to the abundance of grocery stores, the number of specialty products available at the stores has also exploded. Walk into any grocery store in the county and you're sure to find a Mexican section with products that residents have never seen. The newest entry into the grocery wars is the Main Street Farmers Market, located behind Arby's in the Main Street shopping center in Fayetteville. I love this store. It reminds me of a mini-DeKalb Farmers Market or the now-defunct Harry's. The store is small, but the quality of items is amazing. Fresh-cut meats and poultry are available at reasonable prices. Additionally, the store offers a nice sampling of baked goods and exotic products from around the world to tempt even the snobbiest foodie. One of the best qualities about the Farmers Market is its commitment to service. In many of the larger chains, service is a four-letter word. But folks at the Farmers Market are some of the friendliest-retail people I've come into contact with in a long-time. If you want good service and quality products, make a beeline to the Main Street market.
