If you were worried about Buckhead Brewery losing their certificate of occupancy and being shut down by the Peachtree City Planning Commission, fear not. It appears that, after Monday night's commission meeting, the drama is almost all over.

Bruce Nicely of Buckhead Brewery met with City Planner David Rast before Monday night's meeting, where he told the planning commission that though there were a few issues that needed to be addressed, they were in the process of addressing them. The main points that needed to be addressed, according to Rast, were berming between the parking lot and Lexington Park, the installation of a cart path and the planting of some different trees.

A berm is a mound or wall of earth and though Buckhead Brewery currently has a berm, Rast and the city feel that it can be shaped more attractively. This reshaping is scheduled to occur this afternoon. Nicely said he is excited about putting in a cart path and will install one but must wait for the city to start the path which will lead to the property. Rast stated that this will occur soon. The trees currently on the property are not on the accepted tree list in the city's ordinance. This, according to Nicely, is because the wrong trees were delivered and as the trees were bare when planted it was difficult to determine that they were the wrong trees. This, too, will be remedied in the near future.

What the members of the planning commission would like from Nicely and Buckhead Brewery is a landscape plan that they can approve, which will end this matter once and for all. There was some confusion between the two parties and Nicely assumed that by working with staff on several issues and meeting certain requirements, the landscape plan was approved. Apparently, it was not. Nicely said he will come before the planning commission June 23 with a landscape plan that meets the city's requirements and also shows what is currently on the property. Assuming the planning commission approves it, a permanent certificate of occupancy will be issued and this matter will be closed.

So, fans of Buckhead Brewery can rest easy. It appears as though the restaurant will be around for a long time.
