Obituaries

Marjorie Kuhns


Marjorie D. Moffett Kuhns, 60, Newnan, died May 29, 2003. She was born Jan. 3, 1943, in Machias, Maine, the daughter of the late Donald T. and Sara A. Allan Moffett.
A private memorial service was held at her home with the Rev. Betsy Haas officiating.
Survivors include her husband, Lewis R. Kuhns, Newnan; sons, Donald L. Kuhns and Thomas A. Kuhns, both of Newnan; a daughter, Jill E. and Scott E. Prouty, Newnan; and a sister, Rebecca J. Farr, Summerville, S. C.

Barbara Massengale


Barbara Jean Massengale, 68, Senoia, died May 30, 2003. She was born Nov. 5, 1934 in Fulton County. She was preceded in death by a grandson, Rodney. She had been a resident of Senoia since 1969, having moved there from Tyrone, where she had lived for many years. She was a retired clerk from Massengale’s Grocery Store, Senoia. She enjoyed going to yard sales and flower gardening.
Graveside services were at the Senoia City Cemetery with the Rev. Mercer Massengale officiating.
Survivors include her husband, James Davis Massengale, Senoia; sons, Mike and Rose Massengale, Senoia, and Mark Massengale, Moreland; daughters, Linda and David Allison, Moreland, and Lynn and Andrew Cook, Sharpsburg; grandchildren, Lisa Allison, Kain Allison, Brad Massengale, Micah Dickie, Dane Dickie; and great-grandchildren, Blake, Austin, Ariel, Chandler, and Kaden.

James Hooper


James “Jim” Hooper, 57, Sharpsburg, died June 5, 2003. He was born Aug. 31, 1945 in Woburn, Mass.
Services were at St. Matthews Catholic Church with the Rev. Father Victor Galier officiating. Interment was at Westminster Memorial Gardens, Peachtree City.
Survivors include his wife, Linda Hooper, Sharpsburg; children, James Hooper and Kathy and Kevin Collins, all of Sharpsburg, and Patrick and Samantha Hooper, England; grandchildren, Tessa, Cassie, Drake, Kyra, and Samuel; a brother, Tom and Ellen Hooper; and a sister, Peggy and David Sullivan, Peachtree City.

Rev. Walter Baker


The Rev. Walter F. Baker, 72, Riverdale, died June 7, 2003. He was born Dec. 14, 1930 in Coweta County. He was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Lindsey Baker. He was retired from Nalley Chevrolet, with 40 years service in car sales and management. He was a former pastor of several churches, including Southside Baptist Church, College Park, where he also served as a director of music, Community Baptist, Newnan, and Line Creek Baptist, Peachtree City.
Services were at the Parrott Funeral Home chapel with the Rev. S. R. Jones, and the Rev. Darris Baker officiating. Interment was at Forest Lawn, College Park.
Survivors include his wife of 54 years, Jean Smith Baker, Riverdale; sons, the Rev. Darris and Dotti Baker, Calhoun, and Gary and Charlotte Baker, Newnan; brothers, Emmett and Betty Baker, and William Bert Baker, all of Senoia; a sister, Hazel Conway, Senoia; and grandchildren, Chris Franklin, Amanda Franklin, Lauren Baker, Erin Baker, Lori Keller, and Billy Holbrook.
Parrott Funeral Home, Fairburn, was in charge.

Louis Tumlin


Louis Henry Tumlin, 81, Sharpsburg, died June 8, 2003. He was born June 8, 2003 in Decatur, DeKalb County. He was retired from Complete Auto Transit in Lakewood Heights, Atlanta, as a Master Mechanic and Welder for 28 years. He also ran his own business, “Tumlin’s Garage”, Lakewood Heights. He was a member of the United Auto Workers Union and the Lakewood Baptist Church.
Services were at the Parrott Funeral Home chapel with the Rev. Terry New officiating. Interment was at Forest Lawn, College Park.
Survivors include his wife, Ruth Cheatwood Tumlin, whom he married Jan. 21, 1945, Sharpsburg; sons, Ronald Louis, Wayne George, and Jeffrey Lamar; a daughter, Gayle Ruth; grandchildren, Bryan, Scott, Adam, Steven, Melanie, and Amelia; great-grandchildren, Dustin, Nikki, and Casey; a brother, Lonnie “Pete” Tumlin; and a sister-in-law, Mattie Lee Tumlin.
Memorial donations may be made to the Southland Nursing Home, 151 Wisdom Road, Peachtree City, GA 30269.
Parrot Funeral Home, Fairburn, was in charge.
