Wednesday, June 11, 2003 Community network becomes electronic front porch for Avery Park residents Avery Park's success spans more than sales figures, its technology initiatives are cultivating a successful sense of community for the residents of the Newnan development. Because of today's transient society, many people do not feel a sense of closeness to the communities in which they live. To address this lack of connectivity, Pathway has provided a specialized, community network with sections for Avery Park residents to form their own social or hobby groups, trade favorite recipes or chat with their neighbors online. A community calendar provides updates relating to social or sports opportunities, and residents may search for new acquaintances who share anything from a home state, to an alma mater, to an interest in gardening. "We are helping people meet their neighbors, plan social activities and just visit on the electronic version of the old front porch," Sullivan said. "For us, technology is a component of a larger effort to give people a real sense of place within the context of their community." Avery Park resident Jeff Carroll is an avid user of the community network and believes it is real asset for the residents. "While Avery Park has many characteristics of a turn-of-the-century community, there's nothing old about its technology initiatives," said Carroll. "The community network, along with structured wiring, and fast Internet access capabilities enable us to have the best of both world'stoday's technology in a setting reminiscent of historic Newnan." Pathway Communities is no stranger to advanced technology initiatives. In 2000, the company won the Best Planned Community award from the Home Automation Association. In addition to its technology component, Avery Park has eight of the area's best builders showcasing the variety of home styles and prices available at Avery Park. Architecture at Avery Park ranges from traditional to turn-of-the-century to custom, with prices ranging from the $130s to over $400,000. Avery Park is located on Highway 29 in Newnan. The Information Center is open daily 11-6 and Sundays 1-6. For more information, visit www.averypark.com, or call 770-252-9100.
