Villages earns city award

The Villages at LaFayette Park was recipient of the award for Best Mixed Use Design when Fayetteville officials presented their first Development of Excellence Awards.

Part of the city's "Georgia Cities Week" observance, the awards were handed out at a breakfast April 22 in council chambers at City Hall.

Established to recognize outstanding work in specific areas related to development, the awards will in the future be presented on an annual basis.

Hosting the first annual event were city officials, including the mayor and council; Main Street Fayetteville; the Downtown Development Authority; and the city's planning and zoning board.

Mayor Ken Steele explained that the awards were established to give recognition to those projects which have not only adhered to the standards and ordinance set forth by the city, but have in many instances gone above and beyond the requirements, thus "raising the bar" by their examples.

This was the second major award earned by The Villages at LaFayette Park this year. In January, the development received the Exceptional Merit Award for Development Design in the Expansion of Town Center at the Atlanta Regional Commission's annual State of the Region Breakfast.

The Villages at LaFayette Park, Fayetteville Village LLC's multi-use community, is an approximately 110-acre development three blocks west of the Old Courthouse Square in Fayetteville and bordered by Ga. Highway 54 on the south and the Fayette County High School complex on the north.

The development is planned to have 151 single family detached homes featuring Turn of the Century styles with prices starting in the $200,000s.

The builders are all established and well known local companies, including Mike Harrell & Associates, Ravin Homes, and Ray Wright Homes. In addition to these Classic American Village and Cottage homes, there will also be 22 Estate homes on larger homesites.

Construction has also begun on the first 11 of 30 townhouses which are being built by Chris Dixon & Associates, another well known member of the local building community. These townhouses are priced from $189,000 to $230,000.

Mike Harrell & Associates and Chris Dixon & Associates are being represented in the development by Lee-Dixon Realty, whose agents, Ann W. Roghelia and Jane Foster, can be contacted at 770-461-3293. Ravin Homes' in-house marketing agent is DeSales deGolian, whose number is 770-461-0219. Ray Wright Homes has chosen Re/Max Around Atlanta to handle sales, with Marcia Bolton and Sheila Jordan as the on-site agents. Their number is 770-461-7030.

At this time, each single family residential builder has a decorated model home in the community, but a unified sales center is currently under construction. With completion of the sales center, the three model homes will be placed on the market.

In addition to the residential units, the community will also contain several parks, a junior olympic pool, playground, and commercial and office space.

Also on the property is The Villages Amphitheater, which was named Best Public Project at the Development of Excellence Awards event. The late last September, is owned by the Downtown Development Authority and managed by Main Street Tourism Assoc. A multi-use venue representing all aspects of the cultural arts and educational community, it was designed to fit the architectural emphasis of Main Street with its brick accents and turn-of-the-century lighting. The amphitheater is located on a three-acre tract at the intersection of LaFayette Avenue and Tiger Trail and shares the parking lot at Fayette County High School.
