Taylor to speak to Fayette DemocratsBy J. FRANK LYNCH
Lt. Governor Mark Taylor will be the keynote speaker Sunday when the Fayette County Democratic Committee hosts its first Jefferson-Jackson Luncheon. The 3 p.m. gathering at Right on Thyme Restaurant, 174 N. Glynn St., is the biggest indication so far of the party's efforts to regain a foothold in Fayette politics.\ Being a Democrat in overwhelmingly Republican Fayette County requires some fortitude. Rep. Virgil Fludd is the only declared Democrat elected to public office who lives in Fayette County. The north Fayette resident shares House District 48 with three other lawmakers who live in Fulton or Clayton counties. As head of Fayette's legislative delegation, Fludd represents a largely affluent, African-American section of Fayette that's attracting voters with more traditional Democratic ties. Judy M. Chidester, a Peachtree City attorney, is chair of the committee. Cost of the luncheon is $15 and reservations are requested by calling Chidester's office at 770-487-5919. Checks may be made payable to the Fayette County Democratic Committee.
