O'Charley's restaurant gets nod from Fville planners

Development plans to locate an O'Charley's restaurant on Ga. Highway 85 north near the Fayette Pavilion have been approved by the Fayetteville Planning and Zoning Commission.

The 1.35-acre lot will have a total of 121 parking spaces available, thanks to use of both on-site and shared parking with two other restaurant sites planned there. The commission granted a special exception for the parking since the city would normally require 138 parking spaces because of the restaurant's seating capacity of 275 seats.

One of the most significant issues with the original development plans concerned the outdoor lighting scheme. Several commissioners worried that some of the lights were "neon" in appearance even though they weren't technically neon lights.

Restaurant officials followed that lead and made changes to the lighting plans that the commission deemed acceptable.

The commission approved the plans and the special exception at its meeting Tuesday night.

Development plans for a new McDonald's restaurant on Hwy. 85 South were tabled by the commission, which wants the owner to get an agreement to create an access road. The road would tie the restaurant to the large commercial development on the southside that's being planned by Concordia Properties.

The idea of using the access road is to help limit the amount of traffic flowing onto and off of the highway.

The site is located between the Walgreen's drug store and the GTO's Drive-In restaurant.
