Faith Lutheran breaks ground for new facility in Coweta Co.

Calling it a blend of the old with the new the celebration of Palm Sunday and the groundbreaking for a new church members of Faith Lutheran Church in Coweta County broke ground for their new church building last month.

"There were palm branches in the air, a cross inscribed in the earth, spades breaking the ground it was the blend of old and new that made the event so striking for the crowd gathered in the open field," said one church member who witnessed the event.

About 100 people gathered to mark the special day in the life of the young congregation founded in 2001.

The building project will include the sanctuary, education rooms and administrative offices.

The facility will be built on the congregation's new property just north of Ga. Highway 34 on Dr. Fisher Road, located on the outskirts of Peachtree City.

Faith Lutheran is part of the Wisconsin Evangelical Lutheran Synod. The WELS, characterized as theologically conservative, is the third largest Lutheran church body in America. With national offices today in Milwaukee, Wis., WELS began in 1850 when three pastors met in Milwaukee. Today, it has grown to 1,241 congregations in North America, with missions in 26 countries on 5 continents.

The congregation of Faith Lutheran currently meets in the Peachtree City Seventh Day Adventist Church on Hwy. 34 next to Rare Plants Nursery.
