Garden tour set for tomorrow

The private gardens of featured Coweta County Master Gardeners will be open to the public on the Garden Gate Tour tomorrow from 9 a.m.-2:30 p.m.

The gardens are filled with nooks and crannies, specialty plants, garden accents, and water features beautifully placed and carefully tended. Each garden has a unique personality.

The Wright garden is nestled in the woods dappled with garden accents, bird houses, bird feeders, and fountains. Tables are arranged for entertainment at a moment's notice. Music abounds in the garden drifting through daylilies, hydrangeas, perennials, and shade loving plants. Gracious entertaining and gracious plantings delight visitors in the Wright garden.

The Millard garden rests in the College-Temple historic district of Newnan. The Millards enjoy outdoor living at its best. Garden rooms create intimate outdoor living spaces that transcend from the upper terrace through the garden to the lower terrace. The quarter acre is punctuated with a wisteria arbor and architectural elements. Flowering shrubs and raised beds filled with vegetables and flowers abound in the garden. Two working compost bins provide amendments for the raised beds, which Cindy Millard says is the success of her garden.

The Caldwell garden is a study in relaxation and finding balance in nature. Neighbors have asked the Caldwells if they are starting a nature preserve. Beyond the pool area surrounded by exotic plants lies a peaceful woodland path lined with azaleas, rhododendrons, wildflowers, and native plants.

The Dawson garden has been featured on previous garden tours. Dianne Dawson is popular as a garden designer whose talent blends flowers, perennials, and shrubs into a delightful combination. Bare earth and open spaces are an invitation for Dawson to add another splash of color to her pallete of plants. Those who visit her garden will take home plenty of artistic ideas and garden inspiration.

The Garcia garden has evolved at the hands of an expert plantsman. Harvey Garcia plants and maintains the landscapes of the city of Peachtree City. He is a professional horticulturist as well as a Master Gardener volunteer.

He has a passion for life, for people, and for plants. The selection of plants in his garden attests to his zest for life and love of diversity. The Garcia garden is filled with a variety of plants for gardens of the Southeast.

Master Gardenerss will be available the day of the tour to identify plants and answer gardening questions. Maps to the gardens will be provided for self-guided tours. Advanced sales are $12 per ticket for 5 gardens or $3 per garden the day of the tour. Tickets are available in Newnan at the Coweta County Extension Service, 21 East Washington Street or Country Gardens Farm and Nursery, 3728 Lower Fayetteville Road.

The proceeds from the tour will help support the Coweta County Master Gardener Association. The Association is a volunteer organization that promotes Extension programs and community educational and beautification projects.
