Student artwork featured on state poster

A budding wildlife artist at Huddleston Elementary has been selected to have her artwork printed on a poster that is being distributed throughout Georgia to promote the conservation of the state's native wildlife and plants.

Sarah Morgan, 10, competed in the 13th annual "Give Wildlife a Chance" poster contest sponsored by the Georgia Department of Natural Resources, the State Botanical Garden of Georgia and The Environmental Resources Network.

Sarah's drawing of a native Wood Stork took first place in the fifth-grade division of the statewide competition and earned her a place on this year's wildlife poster that is being distributed to schools throughout Georgia. Only four students in grades K-5 are selected to have their artwork featured on the poster.

Students interpreted this year's theme, "Wild on Wildlife," by depicting nongame, native flora and fauna in colorful and imaginative ways. Entries were judged on close correlation to the theme, quality of art, originality and visual impact. The four first place entries were reproduced into a full-color poster.

Before being eligible for participation at the state level competition, students had to win first place awards at their local schools. This year all state level contest entries were on display at the State Botanical Garden of Georgia during the weeks of February 18-March 1.
