ROTC hosts first military ball

Fayette's first Air Force Junior ROTC program ended its inaugural year in high style with a military ball at the Wyndam Conference Center in Peachtree City April 26.

The event was planned and organized by the program's cadets.

"This ball was one of the most enjoyable ceremonies I have attended in many years. I was impressed with the synchronization of the program and especially with the way the cadets presented themselves. It was an outstanding event," said Assistant Superintendent of Operations Fred Oliver.

In addition to enjoying a night out on the town, some cadets were recognized for their yearlong achievements made in the county's first ROTC program. Marcus Johnson was named Most Improved and Monica Lee was recognized for having the Most Potential.

Significant Achievement Plaques were given to five senior cadets: Elbert Nieves, Jessica Harper, Stephen Lawson, Brandi Wade and Drew Duncan. Junior Andrew Gardner, sophomore Sean Solomon and freshmen Joshua Preston, Michael Ruple, Scott Long, and Jacky Bracco also received achievement plaques.

Recipients of special recognition awards included Tanner Smith, the American Veterans Award, Chris Denney, the Military Order of World Wars Award and James Kress, the National Sojourners Award. Additionally, Iesha Scott and Ryan Holmes were the recipients of the Tuskegee Airman Incorporated AFJROTC Award.
