Teachers get trained for Global Achievers

Fayette's Global Achievers teachers recently attended a workshop where they learned about the latest curriculum that will be introduced into the program next year.

The two-day seminar, called Get Into Enterprise, was held at the State University of West Georgia and was led by Graham Maclachlan, president of Rocket Learning of Edinburgh, Scotland, and master trainers Joan Scott and Alex Smith, both of Glasgow, Scotland. Teachers across the state were in attendance including those from Fayette's four high schools: Dan Smith of Sandy Creek, Nina Boynton of McIntosh, ReuAnn Annis of Starr's Mill and Debbie Rasnake of Fayette County.

Global Achievers is a program that matches schools and business partners in counties throughout Georgia with schools and business partners around the world. The project began as a pilot in Fayette in 1995 and now is in 19 school systems and more than 70 schools in the state.

Students involved in the project foster economic and cultural exchanges through forming import/export businesses with their partner school. They communicate with each other via telephone and video conferencing, fax and e-mail. All of the county's high schools are involved in the program.

The trained teachers will attend a follow-up session in spring 2004 to give feedback on the new curriculum.
