Villages site gets sign variance from Fayetteville council

The Villages at LaFayette project has been given a sign variance from the Fayetteville City Council for several temporary signs and four brick monuments that will be located at entrances to the residential area of the mixed-use site.

The project would have been allowed 126 sq. ft. of signage had the project been split into three different developments, said Jahnee Prince, the city's director of planning and zoning. The total amount of signs requested added up to 183 sq. ft. but included several temporary signs, she added.

The four brick monuments will be seven feet tall with signs measuring 18 sq. in. They account for 88 sq. ft. of the requested total.

The other signs, which are temporary, direct motorists to the various residential components of the subdivision and the information center.

Some of the temporary signs will be placed off the main entrance on West Lanier Avenue.

City Manager Joe Morton noted that the developer of the project has worked with the city on the signage issue after proposing a different sign plan several months ago.

The council approved the variance at its regular meeting last Thursday.
