Phony check writer posed as woman in stores, PTC police say

In an apparent first for Peachtree City, police are looking for a Union City man who has posed as a woman while writing over $11,000 in fake checks to stores in the city.

The suspect has been identified as Damian Anthony Mills, 32, who would sometimes wear a dress or wig while writing phony checks with others account numbers printed on them, according to police. Mills struck several retail stores in the city, police said.

Mills faces eight local arrest warrants for forgery in the first degree and financial identity fraud; police said additional charges are expected.

"We have really good pictures of him in the store," from the video surveillance system, said Police Chief James Murray. "We have really good evidence on him."

Mills appeared to have a liking for nice and expensive female underwear judging by the fraudulent purchases he made, Murray said.

Mills would use a number of female identities while writing the phony checks, including Chyna Blalock, Olivia Mills, Latrice Crosby, Wanda Palmer and Thia Robinson, Murray said.

Peachtree City detectives have been working the case with others from Atlanta, Fulton County and Cobb County. Other jurisdictions also have warrants out for Mills, Murray said.

Anyone with information on Mills' whereabouts is asked to contact police at 770-631-2510.

"He'll be arrested very shortly," Murray said, indicating that although Mills moves frequently, detectives have a good idea of his whereabouts.
